Technician II can interpret trends and verify outcomes without gaining independent pesticide or regulated-treatment authority. Strong performance preserves quarantine and sanitation controls, identifies when the evidence exceeds role limits, and hands off a clear affected scope, trend, intervention history and next verification need.

Evidence does not create authorization
A strong diagnosis or trend does not by itself authorize pesticide selection, mixing, application or another regulated treatment. Product legality, label requirements and facility authorization remain separate controls.
Do not break containment to collect convenience data
Sampling and follow-up must preserve quarantine, sanitation and clean-to-dirty workflow boundaries. If a needed action conflicts with containment, escalate the method rather than bypassing the boundary.
Handoff should preserve both confidence and uncertainty
State affected scope, sampling quality, trend, intervention history, outcome evidence, unresolved alternatives, containment status and the next decision required. Never rewrite prior observations to make the case look cleaner.
Worked examples
- Trend evidence suggests failure of an authorized control, but a new pesticide is not selected by the technician; the case is escalated with the measured outcome and next-round recommendation.
- A suspect propagation batch remains quarantined while confirmation is pending even though adjacent clean plants look normal.
Common mistakes
- Treating diagnosis competence as applicator authority.
- Moving suspect material to improve access for scouting.
- Omitting negative or conflicting findings from the handoff.
Practical application
Produce an IPM follow-up report with sampling quality, annotated map, trend classification, intervention history, outcome evidence, biosecurity status, authority boundary, escalation trigger and next-round plan.
