Course 5 — Propagation, Canopy, IPM Scouting & Crop Care

THC Cultivation Technician I · Course 5

Propagation, Canopy, IPM Scouting & Crop Care

Integrates Technician I propagation, transplant, routine canopy work, scouting, sanitation, plant identity, and escalation into controlled work-order execution without granting independent treatment-selection or pesticide-applicator authority.

What you will learn

  • Verify donor, lot, tray, plant, room and work-order identity and execute authorized propagation/transplant work while preserving sanitation, labels, counts and exceptions.
  • Execute authorized routine canopy work to the supplied standard while protecting plant condition, tissue integrity, sanitation and hold/escalation boundaries.
  • Follow a repeatable IPM scouting route and document signs, symptoms, incidence, severity, spatial pattern and trend without unsupported diagnosis or treatment selection.
  • Maintain biosecurity and quarantine boundaries and create reconstructable crop-care records/handoffs across propagation, scouting and canopy work.

Lessons

Lesson 1

Propagation, Transplant Identity and Sanitation Control

Propagation work multiplies both desired genetics and preventable errors. Technician I learners practice confirming donor, lot, tray and work-order identity before cutting or transplanting; preparing a clean work area; following the supplied cutting, rooting or transplant sequence; protecting labels and counts through movement; observing rooting or seedling condition; and documenting losses or exceptions without guessing identity or changing the propagation method outside authorization.

Lesson 2

Routine Canopy Work, Plant Condition and Work-Order Boundaries

Routine canopy work is controlled plant handling, not an invitation to redesign plant architecture from personal preference. Learners practice confirming the room and work order, inspecting plant condition before beginning, performing only the authorized pruning, defoliation, support, spacing or training task, protecting sanitation between plants and areas, recognizing excessive damage or plant conditions that require a hold, and recording work honestly.

Lesson 3

IPM Scouting, Incidence, Severity and Quarantine Evidence

IPM scouting is a repeatable evidence system. Technician I learners follow a defined route, inspect relevant plant structures, traps and room locations, distinguish symptoms from direct signs, record where findings occur and how widely or severely they occur, protect quarantine or isolation boundaries, and escalate evidence without independently selecting pesticide treatment or claiming applicator authority.

Lesson 4

Integrated Crop Care Records, Exceptions and Shift Handoff

Crop-care shifts combine plant handling, scouting, sanitation, identity and records. The final Course 005 lesson integrates the three practical work areas—IPM scouting, propagation workstation and canopy maintenance—into a single evidence and handoff workflow. Learners distinguish work completed from work held, preserve labels and quarantine status, document plant or batch exceptions, and transfer unresolved observations without inventing a diagnosis or completion record.
